Doula certification courses repackage information that you can easily acquire on your own and then sell it to you with the promise of an unnecessary certificate upon completion. Then you may also be required to re-certify continuously.

Of course doula certification courses come in all shapes and sizes. I know some good people who run some of the better training programs. But for the most part it is the same cookie-cutter, conveyor belt, institutionalized options. The ones that will tell you to tiptoe around hospital policies. The ones that will tell you not to make waves. The ones that will tell you not to have a opinions or beliefs about birth at all. The ones that will mould you into a cog in the industrial birth machine. The ones that will make you complacent. 

If you are an independent learner, you probably don’t actually need a doula training. It will just siphon away your money and your individuality.
